We asked participants to rank the top three factors that most influenced their investment decisions in the TSP. Not surprisingly, respondents reported that the economy played a big role, with length of time until retirement, fund risk level, and historical fund performance also playing important roles for many participants.
With 37% of respondents expecting to live for 25 or more years in retirement, there's a clear need for sound retirement planning.
The good news is that there was a 14 point increase – from the 2011 TSP Survey – in the percentage of respondents expressing confidence in their ability to choose the appropriate investment funds to meet their savings goals.
There was also a 4% point increase in the percentage of respondents who reported being confident that they'll have sufficient income in retirement.
