We asked participants to rank the top three factors that most influenced their investment decisions in the TSP. Not surprisingly, respondents reported that the economy played a big role, with length of time until retirement, fund risk level, and historical fund performance also playing important roles for many participants.

Investment Decisions

With 37% of respondents expecting to live for 25 or more years in retirement, there's a clear need for sound retirement planning.

The good news is that there was a 14 point increase from the 2011 TSP Survey in the percentage of respondents expressing confidence in their ability to choose the appropriate investment funds to meet their savings goals.

Planning and Preparation

There was also a 4% point increase in the percentage of respondents who reported being confident that they'll have sufficient income in retirement.
