TSP Webinars


Our Office of Communications and Education hosts TSP webinars to supplement TSP training events hosted by agencies and services.

  • To attend, you must register via the links on this page.
  • You must have access to WebEx to register and attend TSP webinars. You do not need a WebEx account.
  • You can use any internet connected device to register and attend the TSP webinars.
  • If your agency/service does not allow access to WebEx please contact the appropriate office at your agency/service for assistance.
  • The registration password for all TSP webinars in WebEx is TSPweb.
  • After you register, you’ll receive an email with a link to join the webinar online and a phone number if you want to access the audio only.
  • All scheduled start times are listed in Eastern Time.
  • All dates and topics are subject to change and/or cancellation. Additional dates and topics may be added.

Our education staff has created a distribution list of agency and service representatives that can assist in distributing TSP webinar information to participants. Individual participants should not request to be on the list.

How the COVID-19 CARES Act Impacts Your TSP Options

This webinar will cover the differences between the SECURE Act and CARES Act recently passed by congress. We will discuss the current information available concerning temporary TSP loan and withdrawal options created as a result of the CARES Act. Other temporary changes due to the CARES Act and COVID-19 will also be discussed. This new topic will be updated and offered each month as new information is available.

Training for Benefits Specialists


In light of the evolving situation concerning the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board will be following the guidelines put forth by the CDC and OPM and canceling all in-person TSP training courses until further notice. As the TSP 101 and the Payroll Operations and Error Corrections courses are detailed and lengthy, these courses will be rescheduled upon notice that operations have resumed as normal.

We strongly encourage you to heed the advice of your agency, the state and the federal government by practicing social distancing and washing your hands.

The Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board offers a variety of TSP training opportunities for agency benefits officers, payroll personnel, and financial counselors supporting the uniformed services.

  • TSP Payroll Operations and Error Correction (1-day class)


Attendance is open to Federal employees responsible for administration of the TSP, and with prior approval, personnel representing non-profit or academic institutions with an interest in the TSP. Contract personnel who are providing TSP-related services to Federal agencies may also attend with the express written consent of their Contracting Officer Representative (COR).


The courses and course materials are free for the individuals and entities eligible to attend. Employing agencies must pay any associated transportation and per diem costs incurred by their attendees.


The courses are conducted at the FRTIB offices in Washington, D.C. Attendees must make their own arrangements for travel and lodging, but we can provide information on local hotels upon request.

Agencies located outside the Washington, D.C. area may request that any of these courses be taught on-site at their location. Please call (202) 942-1450 for more information.

Training for Your Employees - On-site Workshops


Our TSP training specialists are available to provide on-site TSP workshops for your employees and uniformed service members. Requests are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, based on available training staff. On-site workshops:

  • TSP A to Z (4 hours)
    This course covers every aspect of TSP participation, and would be beneficial for a mixed group covering every stage of professional life. Topics include the benefits of savings, traditional vs. Roth contributions, investments, loans, and post-separation withdrawals.
  • TSP for Early to Mid-Career Employees (2.5 hours)
    This course focuses on what your early and mid-career employees and service members can do to take full advantage of the TSP. Participants will learn how TSP contributions work, the difference between traditional and Roth contributions, and how to manage their accounts throughout their careers.
  • TSP Pre-Separation Workshop: To Retirement and Beyond (2.5 hours)
    This course is designed to give late-career employees and service members the tools they need to make smart decisions with their TSP savings as they prepare to retire. The agenda includes the TSP withdrawal options and death benefits, and provides several retirement scenarios to get attendees thinking about how to best turn their savings into income.
