Thank you for visiting the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board's (FRTIB) website(s) and reviewing its privacy policy. The FRTIB is committed to protecting the privacy of Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) participants, their beneficiaries, and others who visit its websites.

Public Website Access

The public components of the FRTIB and TSP websites do not collect any personal information about you. When you browse, read pages, or download information on the FRTIB or TSP website, we automatically gather and store certain technical (non-personal) information about your visit. This information is only used to help make the sites more effective and user-friendly. Please see the notice below regarding comments submitted online for additional information that may be captured via comment submission.

Information automatically collected and stored includes:

  • Information about your connection to our web server, including the Internet domain and IP address from which you access our website;
  • Information about your computer, including details about your computer's operating system;
  • Information about the web browser and supporting technologies you use to access our site;
  • The date and time you access our sites; and

TSP Account Access

If you choose to access your account in the secure section of the TSP website (tsp.gov), we do request your account number (or user ID) and Web password in order to identify your account. When you provide your account information, you are consenting to the electronic transmission of the personal financial information you have requested. Your consent is effective during the entire time you are accessing your TSP account through the website.

We only share information you give us with other government agencies if your transaction relates to another agency, or as otherwise required by law. Read the warning on the login page.

The TSP does not use Google Analytics on the My Account section of the website. Your account data is not available to Google or any other third party.

Comments Submitted Online

The TSP website allows users to submit comments. Submission of these comments is voluntary; however, you are deemed to have consented to the use of any data you provide. Please be advised that any comment submitted without utilizing the Secure Message Center, may contain data that can be used to identify you. Please also note that generally, there is no expectation of privacy when transmitting information over government networks. If you submit inappropriate comments through networks operated by the TSP or FRTIB, we reserve the right to refer your comments to an appropriate authority, which may include law enforcement or your employer. A comment may be deemed inappropriate if it contains language that is obscene, threatening, or otherwise hostile.


Cookies are pieces of information sent from the web server to your browser and stored for a period of time. Security Monitoring

To ensure that the TSP website is secure and that this website is available to all users, the Government computer system employs software programs to monitor network traffic in order to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information or damage the functioning of the website.

Unauthorized attempts to add and/or change information on this website are strictly prohibited and are subject to prosecution under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986 (18 U.S.C. § 1030).

Participant Outreach Emails

We are asking for your personal contact information, including your phone number and email address for the following reasons:

    • To send confirmation notices to you about online transactions;
    • To communicate with you in the future about your TSP account;
    • To conduct periodic outreach; and
    • To share educational information.

We use and retain your personal information only for this purpose and only as long as is needed, as authorized by law. We will not share your email address or other personal information you provide to us other than as provided by law. If you do not wish to provide your email address, you may still receive confirmation notices and other communications from us via regular mail.

The FRTIB is authorized to collect and store this information pursuant to 5 U.S.C. § 8474. We use this information to send educational updates in accordance with FRTIB’s System of Records Notice (SORN), FRTIB-20, Communications, Education, and Outreach Materials. We also use this information to send periodic updates about your TSP account in accordance with FRTIB’s SORN, FRTIB-1, TSP Records. You can view these SORNs on our website.

We send these emails through the GovDelivery email service provider. You can choose to stop receiving these emails by selecting the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of an email sent to your email address.

Participant outreach subscriptions are only available to you when you add an email address to My Account. Anyone may subscribe to our public email notifications.
