Thank you for your interest in TSP education.
The Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (FRTIB) offers a variety of TSP training opportunities. Review the information below to learn which TSP training will be best for you and your employees.
- TSP webinars and courses – TSP webinars are offered year-round and are open to all federal and uniformed service members. We encourage you to share the TSP webinar calendar with your employees. Advanced registration is required.
- Benefits specialist and educator training – These sessions cover advanced topics for human resources personnel, service financial specialists, and payroll personnel, and are offered periodically throughout the year. They are suspended until further notice.
- Training for your agency or service – By request, we occasionally conduct trainings and webinars to meet your agency or service’s specific needs. Employees should register for the prescheduled webinars and courses first. If the preset schedule doesn’t meet your agency’s or service’s needs, follow the procedures in this section below.
Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board has canceled all in-person TSP training courses and will not be scheduling in-person events until further notice.
Who we train
We provide training for all TSP participants and beneficiaries including federal employees under the Federal Employees’ Retirement System (FERS), Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS), Foreign Service Pension System (FSPS), Foreign Service Retirement and Disability Service (FSRDS), and members of the uniformed services, including the Ready Reserve, Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Commissioned Officer Corps.
Training costs
We never charge a training fee for live or virtual events. In-person training, when available, is free for those requesting training within 50 miles of the Washington, DC area. For those outside this area, we require the requestor pay the travel expenses and federal per diem for the presenter.

Our webinars cover topics for all TSP participants and their beneficiaries.

- Registration is required to attend TSP webinars and courses. Use the links on your preferred session to register.
- Use the WebEx registration password TSPweb.
- You will need access to WebEx via any internet connected device to register for and attend TSP webinars.
- If your agency or service does not allow access to WebEx, please contact the appropriate office at your agency or service for assistance.
- You can use personal email addresses and devices to register and attend the sessions.
- After you register, you’ll receive a confirmation email from WebEx with a link to join the webinar or course.
- All scheduled start times are listed in eastern time.
- Most webinars are 1 to 1.5 hours. Courses are either 2.5 hours or 4 hours.
- All dates and topics are subject to change or cancellation. Additional dates and topics may be added.

TSP to Retirement and Beyond Part I
This two-part presentation is most relevant for employees within 5-10 years of their planned retirement. The focus is on determining how much someone needs to save in their TSP account so they can retire at their desired standard of living with a nest egg that will last for the rest of their lives.
Part I includes a discussion on estimating future income needs, assessing the impact of long-term risks, deciding when to retire, and prioritizing retirement savings goals. (75 minutes)

TSP to Retirement and Beyond Part II
Part II consists of a discussion of the risks faced by new retirees. We will discuss the concept of a systematic strategy and how it is applied throughout retirement and cover scenarios that illustrate issues participants face during the drawdown process.
