An annuity provides monthly payments for as long as you are alive. If you elect an annuity with survivor benefits, it will provide payments as long as you or your joint annuitant are alive.

An annuity is one of your options for withdrawing from your beneficiary participant account. If you want a guaranteed stream of payments for as long as you (or your joint annuitant, if applicable) are alive, an annuity may be the right choice. You can use all or part of beneficiary participant account balance to purchase an annuity. The minimum amount for purchase is $3,500, which applies to your traditional and Roth balances separately.

Be aware that an annuity you purchase is not the same as a TSP installment payment. For all of your withdrawal options, visit TSP Withdrawals.
